UNTRM AND UNIVERSIDAD AUTÓNOMA DE MÉXICO DISCOVER 5 NEW SPECIES OF ORCHIDS AND ONE SPECIES REPORTED FOR THE FIRST TIME IN PERU IN THE ACP "PAMPA DEL BURRO" - YAMBRASBAMBA, AMAZONAS
An exciting scientific finding has been made in the "Pampa del Burro" Private Conservation Area, located in the Perla del Imaza peasant community, Yambrasbamba district, Bongará province, Amazonas region. Researchers from the Toribio Rodríguez de Mendoza National University of Amazonas (UNTRM) and the Autonomous University of Mexico have collaborated closely to discover five new species of orchids for science and one species that has been reported for the first time in Peru.
This outstanding scientific achievement is part of the execution of the project "Diversity of Orchidaceae in the montane forest of the La Pampa del Burro Private Conservation Area: Integrating traditional taxonomy and DNA barcoding", financed by the National Science Council , Technology and Technological Innovation (CONCYTEC) through PROCIENCIA. The project has been executed by INDES-CES and the Faculty of Engineering and Agricultural Sciences of the UNTRM.
Las nuevas especies descubiertas han despertado gran entusiasmo en la comunidad científica. Entre ellas se encuentran:
- Epidendrum ochrostachyum
- Epidendrum imazaense
- Epidendrum rosulatum
- Epidendrum parvireflexilobum
- Epidendrum echinatiantherum (Especie reportada por primera vez en el Perú)
- Epidendrum acrobatesii
Estos fascinantes hallazgos son el resultado de una intensa labor de campo y la aplicación de técnicas de investigación avanzadas. Además, demuestran la importancia de la colaboración científica y la preservación de áreas naturales como el Área de Conservación Privada "Pampa del Burro".
La identificación y descripción de estas nuevas especies contribuirá significativamente al conocimiento de la biodiversidad peruana y al fortalecimiento de los esfuerzos de conservación. Asimismo, resaltan la relevancia de la protección de los ecosistemas amazónicos y la necesidad de seguir promoviendo la investigación científica en estas áreas.
