UNTRM researcher wins scholarship to carry out an international internship at the Harvard University School of Public Health in the United States
Young researcher from UNTRM, Marianella Villegas Pingo, has been selected for a scholarship in the "Internships in science, technology and technological innovation" competition, awarded by CONCYTEC and the National Program for Scientific Research and Advanced Studies – PROCIENCIA. The international internship will take place in the Department of Immunology and Infectious Diseases of the T.H. School of Public Health. Chan from Harvard University, where he will perform bioinformatic analyzes of the complete genome of the malaria parasite Plasmodium and its vector Anopheles benarrochi.
The analyzes that will be developed in this international internship will allow us to understand the genetic diversity, population structure and the patterns of circulation and transmission of the parasite in the native communities of the province of Condorcanqui, information that will allow us to contribute to the surveillance and control of this disease, as part of a project led by UNTRM (Project with Contract No. PE501078584-2022-PROCIENCIA – MALARIA coordinated by Dr. Stella Maris Chenet Carrasco).
Harvard University in the United States is the second best in the world according to the World University Rankings 2023. This scholarship will provide the opportunity for our researcher to share with top-level international professors and researchers, disseminate the research that is being carried out at UNTRM , strengthen collaborations and exchanges with this university and in turn will allow it to become a knowledge multiplier agent upon its return to our institution.
