Due to the academic activities conducted by UNTRM to strengthen scientific research, through the development of international exchanges with the best universities in the world and thanks to the funding of ProCiencia-CONCYTEC; Ph.D. Carlos I. Arbizu Berrocal, professor at the Faculty of Engineering and Agrarian Sciences and Coordinator of the Postgraduate Program in Plant Genetics and Plant Breeding Genetic of our university, has been participating as a visiting researcher at the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences (SLU by its Swedish acronym), the third best university in the world in Agricultural Sciences and Forestry.
During his stay at SLU, Dr. Arbizu collaborates with outstanding scientists from the Department of Plant Breeding such as Prof. Dr. Rodomiro Ortiz, considered in the top 10 (highly ranked scholar) of world scientists in the area of Plant Breeding. Dr. Arbizu is currently preparing a manuscript on Peruvian corn races and the preliminary curation of genomic data of native Peruvian chili peppers, in collaboration with UNALM. Additionally, he collaborates with Dr. Theresse Bengtsson on quantitative genetics and genomics of wheat and oats, using SLU's computer server for genomic analyses.
Dr. Arbizu also collaborated with Assoc. Prof. Dr. Aakash Chawade on phenomics, genetics and genomics, as well as with Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mariette Andersson on gene editing techniques to improve the nutritional content of plants. Additionally, he interacted with Prof. Emeritus Dr. Roland Von Bothmer, who is part of the crop research projects and activities of the Nordic Center for Genetic Resources.
